John Badovinac, one of the partners of New Jersey-based specialty electronics distributor CAVD (Custom Audio Video Distributors) passed away suddenly Tuesday night, the victim of an apparent heart attack. Badovinac, well known throughout the New York metropolitan market in the electronics industry, has been selling CE products for nearly 40-years both at the retail and wholesale level.
In yet further indication of industry consolidation, Tampa, FL-based Dow Electronics announced this week that it would acquire Shifting Sands Stereo Distributing, Inc. of Dania, FL. Shifting Sands (SSSD) is a well-known custom electronics-oriented distributor that was also one of the founding members of the Digital Delivery Group – a national distributor group.
Strata-gee.com has learned that the Digital Delivery Group once again finds itself without an executive director – only six months after naming Daniel Kippycash as Executive Director at the end of December 2012. The group remains embroiled in turmoil as it was in the midst of a major change of direction and a membership recruitment drive to replace several members who had departed the group for newcomer Catalyst AV. After having been briefed on the group’s progress in late March, we recently contacted the organization for a new update and learned of the executive director’s departure.
3M Touch Systems, Inc. announced today a new 46-inch 3M Multi-Touch Display C4667PW – a high-performance multi-touch display with the ability to track up to 60 simultaneous touch points. Designed with multi-user environments in mind, 3M says the C4667PW is optimal for collaborative environments where two or more people need to work both independently and as a group.

WAVE Electronics (WAVE) announced this week that it has opened a new full service warehouse location in Dania Beach, FL, which is located in the more populous southern part of the state – just north of Miami between Hollywood and Ft. Lauderdale. Part of WAVE’s continuing national roll-out, just one month ago the company opened a new full service warehouse in New Jersey. This new Florida location brings their total to 10 locations.
In late December 2012, just days before the January Consumer Electronics Show, there was a relatively significant shift in alliances in the world of national distributor groups that we reported on. First we learned of the creation of a new group, CatalystAV – a group whose announcement contained the names of four members of the existing Digital Delivery Group (DDG) group. We also learned that DDG, in addition to losing some key members, had also parted ways with existing Executive Director Dave Kaplan and hired Daniel Kippycash of The DaVinci Group as his replacement.
Clearwater, FL-Based Tech Data Corp. said today that it will restate some of its financial results for the period of time covering the fiscal years of 2011, 2012, and 2013. According to the company, it has discovered “improprieties” with how its U.K. subsidiary reflected vendor accounting.
Catalyst AV, the newest national distributor group, announced yesterday that it has added IC Realtime Security to their vendor line-up. Catalyst AV is made up of eleven regionally based rep/distribution companies. The group launched officially at last month’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
ProSource, which bills itself as the country’s largest specialty and consumer-electronics merchandising group, announced today that IC Realtime would become a vendor for the organization at their upcoming HES Summit taking place February 17-20, 2013 at the Orlando Marriott World Center.
