SnapAV announced today that it has acquired Allnet Distributing, the Chicago-based distribution company owned by Wally Whinna, who years ago sold a distribution company to Ingram Micro as part of their acquisition of AVAD. This makes Whinna a two-time winner, having created two distribution companies and selling them off, likely for a handsome profit – this time to industry powerhouse SnapAV.

Catalyst AV’s 1st Birthday: What a Difference a Year Makes

December 5, 2013 by Ted Leave a Comment

Photo of a 1-year-old's birthday cakeWe first reported on the formation of a new distributor group called Catalyst AV almost exactly one-year ago in December 2012, just prior to their formal launch at the International Consumer Electronics show this past January. So what’s life like at 1-year old Catalyst AV? See details below… [Read more…] about Catalyst AV’s 1st Birthday: What a Difference a Year Makes

Wally Whinna’s New Catalyst AV Distributor Group: AVAD Part Two?

December 20, 2012 by Ted Leave a Comment

Catalyst AV LogoThe industry is abuzz about the recently announced launch of a new national distributor group known as Catalyst AV. While the emergence of a new distributor group has been rumored for months, the formal announcement came out just last week. The genesis of the group, according to our sources, was a triumvirate of Wally Whinna (Chicago’s Allnet Distributing), Glen O’Brien (California’s Electronic Stockroom), and Mike Hench (Florida & Southeast’s Electronics Source).

Wally Whinna was one of the original partners of the Alliance of Value Added Distributors (AVAD), the most successful of the national distributor groups that was ultimately purchased by Ingram Micro several years ago. We spoke to Whinna about his latest venture.
