CEDIA Expo Gives the Cold Shoulder to Any Media Not Named CE Pro

October 12, 2022 by Ted 1 Comment

CEDIA Expo

It’s a remarkable event when someone can claim a legitimate first. In all my years in this crazy Tech business, those firsts are getting fewer and further between. But Emerald Expositions, owner of the CEDIA Expo trade show can claim a legitimate first that I have never seen before from any show. They gave the cold shoulder to any media organization not named CE Pro.

Usually, shows want good media relations across the board with happy media writing positive stories and building an upbeat buzz about their event. Not Emerald…they are quite satisfied to help just one media outlet to run positive stories about their event…their very own CE Pro.

See how Emerald and CEDIA Expo give the media the cold shoulder

What to Expect at CEDIA Expo 2022

September 28, 2022 by Ted Leave a Comment

CEDIA Expo 2022 will be in the Kay Bailey Hutchinson convention center in Dallas

Finally, after two years without a real show – absolutely no show in 2020, and a very tiny one in 2021 – the industry comes together again for its one big show of the year – the CEDIA Expo 2022. Although not technically post-COVID, at least the situation is improving to the point where the world is beginning a return to something that approaches normal. And that brings us to now, the relaunching of live in-person events like the CEDIA Expo in Dallas, TX. But what can you expect if you head to Dallas and Expo?

More than a year after its initial introduction, and in the wake of chip manufacturers threatening to scale back their U.S. projects, the United States Senate finally took action on Tuesday to move forward on the bill known as the CHIPS Act. After months of at times heavy discussion/arguing, the stage is set for both the House of Representatives and the Senate to vote on its passage, perhaps as early as next week.

With Demand Slack & Inventory Levels Building, Samsung Cuts Procurement

Is an Industrywide Slowdown in Tech Beginning?

Samsung Electronics is taking action to hold back on procurement orders and asking suppliers for concessions, such as delayed deliveries, order reductions, and more in the wake of a concerning buildup of inventory. While the action is said to be temporary, concerns over a slowing global economy make it difficult to determine how long the company will deem these actions are necessary.

CEDIA Revitalization Continues as New Administration Rethinks Education

See What Education CEDIA has Planned for Expo 2022

In a special briefing for the media, new CEDIA Vice President of Education and Training Amanda Beckner revealed the organization’s upcoming program for this year’s CEDIA Expo coming this Fall. It was instantly clear that Beckner, formerly involved with AVIXA education, completely understands both the importance of and the unique demands of education in a technical association.

It was also clear that the Association is taking a fresh look at ways to elevate CEDIA’s education to the next level. And that is a good thing.

We’re ‘…Experiencing a Seismic Shift’ Says Uber CEO

More and more evidence continues to emerge suggesting that the economy is undergoing a fundamental shift, a turn if you will, that will at least slow economic growth – and may lead to recession. Perhaps the clearest indicator of that is the turn taken by tech, which has lost a trillion dollars in value in just three days of trading on the stock market. For the last two-plus years, tech was the driving force behind a dramatic economic expansion during the pandemic. What is happening now?

More Data Emerges That Points to a Slowing Economy

April 28, 2022 by Ted Leave a Comment

The headquarters of Netflix is shown in Los Gatos

I’ve put together a compendium of data that emerged this week that continues to point to the reality of a slowing economy. The picture gets clearer as more economic measures, including non-traditional measures like the Fluffy Puppy Indicator and home foreclosures reinforce the thinking of economists that more drastic action by the Fed to get inflation under control may lead us into the “R” word…recession.

title slide from CEDIA market study

For the first time in quite a while, CEDIA released the results of a new market study that helped to illuminate where the market is at today. There were, as usual, some significant surprises presented – perhaps the first was an interesting change in methodology that may perhaps serve to deliver a clearer view of key market data.
