Every year at the Consumer Electronics Association’s (CEA) annual International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, NV, the organization releases new marketing data including forecasts about the future growth of the industry. According to the trade group, revenues for the electronics industry will reach $209.6 billion in 2013 – another new record and well over last years $204 billion level.
Even among participating companies in the CEA’s long-running marketing data collection program, there are often chuckles and whispered question marks about the accuracy of the aggregated forecasts. With one exception (2009), the CEA is famous for releasing optimistic growth forecasts that only go one way – up.
One of the more interesting of the seemingly endless series of announcements at CES 2013 was one that heralded the formation of a new trade association called the Internet of Things Consortium (IoTC). An upscale high-performance line, Series 7 boastsĀ a couple of major new technological innovations that the company says offer a real and noticeable upgrade in performance.
The HDBaseT Alliance, a consortium of companies developing and supporting a connectivity technology that is viewed by many as an alternative to HDMI, announced at CES 2013 that it continues to build its membership. Consumer A/V brands Onkyo and Pioneer have both joined the group and are expected to add the technology in their products in the near future.
GoldenEar Technology, the loudspeaker company launched by renowned speaker designer and industry maven Sandy Gross, continues to broaden its line offerings – announcing two new systems at CES 2013 this week in Las Vegas. One of the new models, the Triton Seven, brings Triton technology to new more affordable price points. The other, the SuperSat 60 & 60C satellite & center speaker system, is a step-up over the existing 50-series.
Today is DAY ONE of the 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) taking place in Las Vegas, NV and running through Friday. While many attendees arrived today, most of the press has already been here – lost in the desert – for the last two days…desperately searching for even just a drip…of innovation…
We reported two weeks ago that David Kaplan, Director of the Digital Delivery Group (DDG) for the last seven and a half years, had left the organization. At that time, Kaplan gave no indication of his plans other than to let us know that something was in the works. Now we know that Kaplan has joined with industry notables Ed Brown and Fred Yando to become part of Sales Performance Management (SPM) – a consulting company formed by Brown three years ago.
