Ever-Optimistic, At CES 2013 the CEA Releases New Growth Estimates for Industry

Photo of CEA/CES logoEvery year at the Consumer Electronics Association’s (CEA) annual International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, NV, the organization releases new marketing data including forecasts about the future growth of the industry. According to the trade group, revenues for the electronics industry will reach $209.6 billion in 2013 – another new record and well over last years $204 billion level.

Even among participating companies in the CEA’s long-running marketing data collection program, there are often chuckles and whispered question marks about the accuracy of the aggregated forecasts. With one exception (2009), the CEA is famous for releasing optimistic growth forecasts that only go one way – up.

Wireworld logoSpecialty cable manufacturer Wireworld Cable of Fort Lauderdale, FL launched a new high-performance line of cables called Series 7 this week at CES 2013 in Las Vegas, NV. An upscale high-performance line, Series 7 boasts  a couple of major new technological innovations that the company says offer a real and noticeable upgrade in performance.

HDBaseT Announces at CES 2013 That Onkyo & Pioneer Have Joined Alliance

Logo for HDBaseTThe HDBaseT Alliance, a consortium of companies developing and supporting a connectivity technology that is viewed by many as an alternative to HDMI, announced at CES 2013 that it continues to build its membership. Consumer A/V brands Onkyo and Pioneer have both joined the group and are expected to add the technology in their products in the near future.

Sales Performance Management logoWe reported two weeks ago that David Kaplan, Director of the Digital Delivery Group (DDG) for the last seven and a half years, had left the organization. At that time, Kaplan gave no indication of his plans other than to let us know that something was in the works. Now we know that Kaplan has joined with industry notables Ed Brown and Fred Yando to become part of Sales Performance Management (SPM) – a consulting company formed by Brown three years ago.

Very Late to the Headphone Party – Is Onkyo Better Late than Never?

Photo of Onkyo's New HF-300 HeadphonesOnkyo has finally jumped on the headphone bandwagon, although they are about the last major audio component brand to do so. The company will formally launch its new headphone line at the International CES opening Tuesday in Las Vegas, NV.

As we had reported previously, Onkyo had hinted it would be moving in this direction at last year’s CES.

Two More Directors Leave Best Buy

Best Buy Store EntranceBest Buy Company, Inc. announced this past Monday that two of its directors had resigned, including one that had served in the role of chief executive in the past. These departures come seven months after the departure of company founder Richard Schulze who is now working to make a bid for the struggling retailer.
