McIntosh Program to Supply Celebrities Cut Dealers Out

Company Says No Such Program Exists Today

McIntosh LogoWe’ve recently learned about a program at McIntosh Laboratory, Inc., in which the company approached select prominent individuals, such as famous musicians or other celebrities, and provided them with McIntosh products directly, without the involvement of its dealers. The program, according to sources, was launched by Linda Passaro, a former Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing for McIntosh when it was part of D&M Holdings. Passaro was terminated in November 2011 by President Charlie Randall, but the program apparently remained in force for some time.

But data from Forrester Research, Inc. released last year shows that this tradition is rapidly diminishing, with market trends projecting the elimination of as many as 1 million B2B sales jobs – like those held by sales reps and distributor salespeople – by 2020.

Crestron Pulls Out of CEDIA Expo 2016

Crestron, a long supporter of both CEDIA and the Expo, has always maintained a huge presence, with an upfront positioning right at the entry, thanks to the many priority points it has earned over the years. Now, CEDIA is fast at work finding a replacement.

DTS Partners with ProSource for National Play-Fi Marketing

DTS Play-Fi logoProSource, a national dealer buying group, announced this week that it has cut a deal with DTS Inc.,  to partner in marketing and promoting its Play-Fi wireless music system products. DTS, which announced an expanded roster of Play-Fi participating manufacturers at CEDIA Expo, has been a bit behind other wireless makers before now, but is seen as picking up the pace of its expansion.

CEDIA Expo Attendance Disappointingly Flat

Photo of Expo crowdThis week, the Custom Electronics Design & Installation Association (CEDIA) announced the attendance for this year’s just-completed Expo, which they say came in at 18,700 attendees with 510 exhibiting companies. This level of attendance means only 200 people more visited the 2015 Expo – or a paltry 1% over the Expo attendance last year of 18,500 – and is disappointingly flat in a year that many hoped would show growth.
