ISUS in America? Emerald Adds a Commercial Show to CEDIA Expo; Exhibitors React

Emerald Expositions (NYSE: EEX), the national B2B trade show company that owns CEDIA Expo, CE Pro, and Commercial Integrator surprised the industry at the recent CEDIA Expo 2022 by abruptly announcing that next year they will be “co-locating” a show for commercial integrators at the same time and in the same facility. Reaction to this announcement was…to put it mildly…mixed. Is Emerald trying to imitate the Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) show – an event for both residential and commercial businesses – by launching an ISUS (Integrated Systems United States) event??

WiSA Technologies Puts Up a ‘For Sale’ Sign

On Monday, WiSA Technologies, Inc., a “developer of spatial, wireless sound technology for smart devices and next-generation home entertainment systems,” announced that it has hired an advisor to aid them in moving forward with an “exploration of strategic alternatives” for the company.

In other words, it is putting itself up for sale.

Sonance Residential Biz In Canada to Go From Distributor to Company Direct

Sonance announced this week that it is transitioning its residential business in Canada to a direct model, ending its distributor-led approach that has existed there for several years. Beginning on January 1, 2023, all sales and service of residential products from Sonance, James Loudspeaker, and IPORT will be handled directly by Sonance’s salesforce.

VOXX Intl, Owner of Onkyo & Others, Reports Fiscal ’23 Q2 Sales Decline, $11M Net Loss

VOXX International Corporation (NASDAQ: VOXX) announced its financial results for the second quarter of fiscal 2023 this week and they were quite sobering. Not only did revenues decline by double digits, but the company had a dramatic increase in net loss to nearly $11 million.

Layoffs Hit Premium Audio Company as It Right-Sizes Ops; To Skip CEDIA Expo

BREAKING NEWS

Premium Audio Company, a division of VOXX International and operator of brands such as Onkyo, Integra, Pioneer, and Elite, confirmed today that it has instituted a round of layoffs to “right-size” company operations based on current macroeconomic trends. The company has also confirmed that it has decided, for the second year in a row, not to participate in next week’s CEDIA Expo 2022, due to product roadmap cycles.

Masimo Names Blair Tripodi as Replacement for Former Sound United CEO Kevin Duffy

Tripodi to Head New Masimo Consumer Division

Masimo, a medical products company that acquired Sound United in February 2022, announced on Monday that it is naming Blair Tripodi as Chief Operating Officer (COO) for its new Consumer division. At this time, the Masimo Consumer division consists almost exclusively of the Sound United business. Tripodi moves into the role originally given to former Sound United CEO Kevin Duffy, although Duffy was offered the title of President.

Big Changes Hit Sound United as Terminated President Duffy Exits Today

Sound United VP James Krakowski Announces Departure As Well

On April 11, 2022, Masimo Corp. appointed Kevin Duffy – then CEO of Sound United – President of the Consumer Division of Masimo Corp. as part of its $1 billion acquisition of Viper Holdings Corp., Sound United’s parent company. Duffy was offered a fairly rich package, with salary and certain other benefits and perks that could be worth millions of dollars, in some cases after a vesting period.

Then, just ninety days later, the company filed paperwork with the SEC saying that it had terminated Duffy “without cause.”
