CEDIA Sells Off Their Show to Emerald Expositions

CEDIA sells off showThe Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association (CEDIA) announced today that it has sold off their annual show – previously called the Expo, now known simply as CEDIA2017 – to Emerald Expositions, a company that they say is the largest trade show operator in the United States. The news, likely to be a surprise to many in the industry, is effective immediately, although CEDIA will continue to have a prominent role in the 2017 edition, with Emerald taking full control in 2018.

InfoComm 2016 OpeningInfoComm 2016 is the commercial AV technology industry trade event that just wrapped up last Friday, June 10, after an apparently very successful week at the Las Vegas Convention Center. At the Center of the Storm, CEDIA’s CEO Exudes Confidence; But What’s the Plan?

cedia logoJust before the Consumer Electronic Design and Installation Association (CEDIA) held its annual Expo in Dallas in October 2015, we learned it had appointed a new Chief Executive Officer – Vincent Bruno, who joined the organization after leaving his role as a marketing director for Crestron Electronics. Bruno, who went through an extensive executive search process, hit the ground running, including trying to meet as many members as possible at the show.

But now, months later, the organization is trying to regain momentum after some concerning issues came to light, the most recent being the exit of Crestron, which we announced last week. Bruno described his go-forward plan…and it is ambitious.

Dysfunctional CEDIA Board Cited in Resignation Letter

cedia logoWe reported to you last month that, in an unexpected development best described as surprising, two members of CEDIA’s Board of Directors – Bob Brown and Richard Millson – abruptly resigned their positions within 24-hours of each other. We learned of this through our industry sources, not from CEDIA – which has yet to make any official statement about this unusual event. While we were able to confirm the incident had happened, since none of the parties would speak to us about it, we were unable to report on the reasons behind why this double resignation occurred in the first place. Now…we have more information.

Auro-3D Intro SlideAt last month’s CEDIA Expo, we had the opportunity to meet Wilfried Van Baelen, the rather energetic, almost evangelistic, inventor of Auro-3D immersive surround sound technology. Van Baelen was quick to take credit for the concept of using speakers in the “z-axis” (height) to create a totally immersive surround experience. And he scoffed at the Dolby Atmos and DTS:X versions which miss the mark in several important ways, he tells us.

Two Directors Abruptly Resign CEDIA Board of Directors in Apparent Sign of Turmoil

cedia logoTwo members of the Board of Directors of CEDIA have abruptly resigned within 24-hours of each other in what appears to be a sign of turmoil roiling the organization’s Board, multiple sources told us. According to reports, Richard Millson of Millson Technologies and Bob Brown, a well-known industry consultant, have both abruptly resigned their positions on the Board.

CEDIA: Manufacturers Hop into the Driver’s Seat

CEDIA announced last week that it has hired Vincent Bruno to take over as CEDIA’s new Chief Executive Officer, effective next month. Bruno will leave his current position as Marketing Director for manufacturer Crestron Electronics, a position he’s held for seven years, to take the CEO role at the top trade association for integrators.
