GoldenEar logoGoldenEar Technology has launched newly updated versions of their popular Triton Two and Triton Three floor-standing speaker systems…now called the Triton Two+ and – you guessed it – the Triton Three+. The company has also introduced a new subwoofer called the SuperSub X.

We recently raved about the company’s first sub, the SuperSub XXL – and can’t wait to get an opportunity to hear this new little brother.

CES – From Real Biz to Future Biz to Virtual Biz; This is Progress?

January 6, 2016 by Ted Leave a Comment

CES logoCES is back and its bigger than ever. According to the CTA (formerly CEA), the show spans 2.3 million sq.ft. of exhibit space, in which more than 3,600 exhibitors of all sizes and types have set up booths to hawk their wares. The show is expected to draw more than 150,000 attendees and 6,000 member of the press. It is impossible to cover the entire event…it has just gotten too large.

Luckily, with the industry stuck in several well-worn trends, we in the media can focus our attention beyond these usual suspects – automotive tech (autonomous vehicles and related technologies), drones, 4K UHD TV, Internet of Things (IoT), wearables – to new areas (such as Virtual Reality), and iterative updates from current companies.

Toshiba Credit Rating Cut to ‘Junk’ Status by Moody’s

December 29, 2015 by Ted Leave a Comment

Toshiba signLast week, Moody’s Investors Service announced that it was cutting Toshiba Corp.’s long-term senior bond rating to Ba2, or “junk” status. Considering recent reports from Toshiba, a major industry player that is stumbling in the wake of a scandalous accounting misstep reported earlier this year, the move from the rating service makes sense. But the headline about a brand that was once one of the most admired companies in Japan, and a worldwide industrial and electronics powerhouse for many years, is stunning nonetheless.

There is even more from Moody’s, who changed other ratings as well… [Read more…] about Toshiba Credit Rating Cut to ‘Junk’ Status by Moody’s

Japanese Media Speculates Sharp May Not Survive the Winter

December 22, 2015 by Ted Leave a Comment

Image of Sharp logoToshiba, who is on the verge of announcing a record loss and plans another round of layoffs, is far from the only Japanese giant who is stumbling. A new analysis by the Nikkei suggests it’s possible that Sharp Corp. may not have enough cash to survive the winter – despite the fact that multiple potential suitors are swirling around them in a head-spinning series of negotiations that, so far, are unproductive. And the news of these new troubles have surfaced after they successfully concluded negotiations for a ¥200 billion bank bailout in April.

Emotiva in Major Launch of New Models

December 10, 2015 by Ted Leave a Comment

Emotiva logoEmotiva Audio Corporation is one of those ideas whose core elements initially seemed incongruous – high-end products…sold on the Internet? When we learned of their launch 12-years ago, we predicted doom and damnation. After all, high-end audio, we posited, was as much about the experience -the audition – as it is about the product. Founder Dan Laufman proved us wrong. This week, Laufman caught our attention again when we recently received information about an impressive roster of new models to be launched at CES.

See what we learned from our interview with Dan Laufman… [Read more…] about Emotiva in Major Launch of New Models
