February 17, 2022 by Ted Leave a Comment

New Crestron DM NAX 4-Zone Streaming Pre-Amplifier

Crestron Electronics announced today that it is launching two new audio products, both part of its successful Crestron HOME residential line-up. The addition of these new models – an in-wall subwoofer developed in conjunction with partner Origin Acoustics, and a new DM NAX 4-zone streaming pre-amp – demonstrates the company’s continued commitment to further expanding their residential business.

Part 2 of Strata-gee Interview with New Crestron CEO Dan Feldstein

December 15, 2021 by Ted Leave a Comment

Supply Chain, CEO Role, Going Public, a Better Partner

Last week I wrote about my opportunity to attend the inaugural Creston Next Road Trip in Boston in November. One of the most interesting parts of that experience was having the opportunity to interview new Crestron CEO Dan Feldstein. Crestron, one of the biggest players in the custom integration game, was founded by Dan’s father, George Feldstein (who passed away in 2014) and I was interested in learning more about how the new CEO saw the world and his top priorities and opportunities for the company.

In this Part 2 of that interview, we learn how the company is dealing with the industry-bedeviling supply chain issues, why it will never go public, how Dan views the CEO’s role, and how the company seeks to be a better business partner.

Crestron – The Next Generation: My Interview with New CEO Dan Feldstein

December 10, 2021 by Ted Leave a Comment

Dan Feldstein, new CEO of Crestron at Crestron Next Road Trip in Boston

How He Came to be CEO and Where He’ll Pursue Growth

Last month I had the opportunity to attend the first-ever Crestron Next Road Trip event held in Boston, MA. The company is using the Road Trip as a replacement for the lost CEDIA Expo 2021 where they and around 150-200 other companies pulled out in the face of rising COVID infections. It is designed to offer integrators an opportunity to view its many new recently introduced products, take a variety of training courses, and get a preview of some future technology.

But most importantly for me, I was granted an opportunity for an unrestricted interview with Crestron’s new CEO, Dan Feldstein. The interview was originally scheduled for 30-minutes but actually ended up lasting more than an hour and a half, as our vigorous conversation covered a lot of ground – including big topics, such as how Feldstein came to be the company’s new CEO, and what market areas he believes offer the greatest growth opportunity for the company.

Last week, Crestron Electronics, a leading provider of control and automation solutions, wrapped up their two-day regional show, the Crestron Next Road Trip, at the Westin Copley Place Hotel in Boston. The well-attended two-day event saw hundreds of integrators descend on Boston to participate in an event that included whole sections of their displays from the CEDIA Expo and InfoComm trade show booths and offered full-day educational courses for both their residential and commercial dealers.

Crestron Launches Line of Battery-Powered Shades

November 11, 2021 by Ted Leave a Comment

Crestron line of Battery-Powered Shades

Crestron Electronics, one of the industry’s most powerful home automation brands, announced today that it has launched a new line of battery-powered custom shades. While Crestron has been in the shading business for quite some time now, this new line of battery-powered shades – to my mind at least – seems perfectly suited as a complement to their burgeoning Crestron Home residential automation ecosystem.

Crestron, the Biggest Booth in the Show, Withdraws from CEDIA Expo 2021

August 18, 2021 by Ted Leave a Comment

BREAKING NEWS

Crestron Electronics announced this morning that it has made “the difficult decision to fully cancel our presence” at the rapidly approaching CEDIA Expo 2021, scheduled to start in just about two weeks in Indianapolis, IN. Crestron joins a long list of exhibitors who have also decided to pull out of the event, almost all due to health and safety concerns from the dramatic increase in infections and hospitalizations as a result of the rapidly spreading COVID-19 Delta variant.

They Say Success is Fleeting: The Story of Crestron’s 30 Yrs of Success w/ Randy Klein

August 12, 2021 by Ted Leave a Comment

Business guru Tom Peters has written a total of 18 business books selling in the aggregate more than 10,000,000 copies. But just one of those books is itself responsible for about half that total – or 5,000,000 copies. That book, In Search of Excellence, was published in 1982 in collaboration with Robert H. Waterman, Jr. and is to this day considered one of, if not the, most successful business books of all time.

I should note that neither Crestron, nor Randy Klein is featured in the book. But many of the 43 public companies that are profiled in that book as organizations that embraced processes that drive excellence would, in just a few short years after publication, fall into hard times themselves. Companies like Wang Labs, Xerox, and NCR in subsequent years were no longer excellent – and so it would seem that, as the old saying goes, “success is fleeting.”

Yet Crestron under CEO Randy Klein is on a 30-year winning streak. See how…

Crestron announced on Monday that it was joining with members of the Bargetzi family to create the Fred Bargetzi Memorial Scholarship, created to honor the memory of the company’s much-beloved and long-time Chief Technology Officer Fred Bargetzi, who passed away in January of this year. The scholarship will be for select students of Bargetzi’s alma mater, the University at Buffalo, and will serve both “to empower students at the University at Buffalo to succeed in their education by removing barrier’s from their progress”…and to offer a lasting legacy of the CTO who was so meaningful to one of this industry’s greatest technology companies.

Crestron Partners with Origin on New Audio Line

March 8, 2021 by Ted Leave a Comment

When two power players decide to create something new together, the result could potentially shake the earth and be felt by all in the industry – especially by their competitors. Such was the first thought that came to mind when I learned that Crestron Electronics and Origin Acoustics – one, a home automation and integrated systems Jedi Master…and the other, a leading brand in premium architectural audio solutions – came together to create a new line of residential audio products under the Crestron brand.
