Another Round of Sonos Layoffs at a Critical Moment; 12% of Staff is Cut

February 18, 2025 by Ted Leave a Comment

Consumer using Sonos products

Sonos has announced that it is launching yet another reorganization (it had one in 2024, and another one before that in 2023) with a “reduction in force” this time impacting 12% of its entire workforce. It seems remarkable that at a time when it continues to struggle to extricate itself from the La Brea tar pits it fell into via 2024’s app disaster, one of its first solutions is to let people go. More than 1 out of every 10 employees has been terminated to “…improve the Company’s operating model and cost structure to set the Company up for long-term success.”

It is January 18, 2024, just a little more than two weeks into the new year, and so far Tech businesses have laid off at least 7,785 employees at 58 companies, according to the tracking website Layoffs.fyi. While the number of layoffs per company appears to be moderating some as compared to last year’s crazy post-COVID downward adjustment frenzy, the stream of companies laying off staff appears unrelenting.

‘There is No Solace I Can Offer;’ VOXX CEO Announces 14% Cut in Jobs

July 25, 2023 by Ted Leave a Comment

VOXX letter to employees

In a letter to employees earlier this month, VOXX International Corp. (Nasdaq: VOXX) CEO Pat Lavelle painted a dark picture of the economic environment the company finds itself mired in, noting its significant sales declines and mounting losses. If you were a VOXX employee reading the opening phrases of this letter, I’m pretty certain a feeling of dread would sweep over you – sensing where this communication is heading.

And you would be right, as later in the correspondence, Lavelle reveals a plan to cut “more than 150 employees” along with a series of other steps to cut costs and lower overhead. And these cuts are on top of the job cuts the company has already implemented in 2022, as it tries again to right the ship.

In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Tuesday, Sonos, Inc. But there was even more in the Sonos filing…
