After Year-and-a-Half Fight, All Claims are Dismissed in Snap One vs AVA

Snap One vs Josh.ai Lawsuit Continues

Strata-gee has learned that the U.S. District Court in the District of Utah has granted a Joint Motion to Dismiss all claims between Snap One, LLC (now part of Resideo) and AVA, Inc. The motion is the result of a negotiated settlement between the parties. This solves one-half of a lawsuit originally filed in August 2023 between Snap One, LLC (plaintiff) versus AVA, Inc. (defendant), and Josh.ai, Inc. (defendant).

Josh.ai is not part of this settlement so that case carries on.

Josh.ai Goes on Offense, Fires Off Motion to Dismiss Much of Snap One Lawsuit

May 2, 2024 by Ted Leave a Comment

In the matter of Snap One, LLC v. AVA, Inc, and Josh.ai, Inc., we finally see a substantive move after the initial filing by plaintiff Snap One and subsequent answers from the defendants AVA and Josh.ai. And that subsequent move is a doozy – Josh.ai has gone on offense and filed a motion to dismiss multiple major claims in the Snap One lawsuit.

Josh.ai’s filing is well written and puts Snap One on defense, forcing them to submit genuine facts and evidence to support their many claims, including a few allegations that were really quite salacious.

Josh.ai Continues Expansion to Full-Control Provider as Voice Recedes

February 22, 2024 by Ted 1 Comment

Alex Capecelatro, founder & CEO of Josh.ai

This week, Josh.ai held a significant launch of several new products, app improvements, and new integrations as it continues its journey from a voice interface into a full system control provider. While a voice update was part of this announcement, it felt deemphasized as the company pursued a greater role in the industry as a full control solution provider by launching a richer app user experience (UX), the introduction of a touch panel interface, and a round of new integrations.

With these filings, we have completed the end of the beginning of what will undoubtedly be a long dance marathon of patent and trade secret litigation.

Lawsuit Alleges Unethical Biz Practices from CI Brands Perceived as Upstanding Citizens

On Monday, Snap One revealed that it had filed a lawsuit against two other well-known, if smaller, brands, alleging patent infringement and a range of illicit and unethical business practices that it claims violated existing contractual agreements. The defendants in this matter are Josh.ai and AVA.

The allegations, if true, are really quite surprising.

Josh.ai Pivots to Control

July 19, 2023 by Ted 1 Comment

Screen shot of the Josh App from Josh.ai

OK, let me say upfront, I’m pretty sure the good folks at Josh.ai would take exception to the headline of this post. They might even have some harsh words for me. Most likely, they would argue they’ve always been about control. But in my view, they’ve been all about a subset of control – voice control (as well as AI or artificial intelligence).

This week, however, that all changed.

Somfy and Josh.ai Say Dealers Demanded They Partner with Crestron Home

Ever since Crestron launched Crestron Home it became obvious that there had been a sea change in the company’s go-forward strategy. The new Home operating system was easier to program and deploy, more visually attractive for end-users, and more clearly differentiated from their more robust high-end programming solutions. But also, the company’s style of operation changed as well, from doing it all in-house to opening itself up to partnerships.

Now we learn of two more in a long line of technology partnerships as the company continues to evolve and propel Crestron Home down the path to becoming the dominant smart home OS in the industry. The new partnerships are with Josh.ai and Somfy, both well-regarded technology players in the custom integration channel.
