Shelly Group to Launch New Gen3 Series of IoT Devices at CES 2024

January 3, 2024 by Ted Leave a Comment

New Shelly chip powers Gen3 devices

Shelly Group AD (formerly Allterco Robotics), a maker of a range of task-specific IoT devices and smart building solutions under the Shelly brand, announced today that it is launching a new Gen3 series of devices at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show 2024. Shelly offers an innovative line of devices primarily targeted at the DIY hobbyist market, but devices that are increasingly being embraced by integrators as handy problem solvers in the field.

I find Shelly to be an interesting company. They introduced their line in early 2022 as a DIY (do it yourself) line of relays, switches, sensors, and other such devices. Normally, most integrators shy away from anything designed for the DIY market – preferring to work with brands seeking to address the DIFM (do it for me) client that is the bread and butter of custom integrators.

But Shelly had a compelling difference from other DIY purveyors of largely freestanding apps. First, Shelly devices are smarter, better built, and support multiple protocols for greater flexibility and broader application. By being better built, they are more reliable for day-in/day-out usage.

Introducing Shelly Gen3 Devices

Now the company is launching its next-generation series of devices, which they like to call Gen3, of which no less than ten new models will be featured at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, NV running from January 9-12, 2024.

So what’s new with Gen3? Quite a bit, I’d say. This is not simply last year’s device in a new color! In Gen3, Shelly is launching a new microprocessor that dramatically ramps-up the power and the memory. The company says these devices feature no less than 8MB of memory. This is not only a dramatic improvement over the previous generation, but it also delivers “smoother and faster operation,” according to the company.

Powerful New Shelly Chip

Perhaps even more importantly, the inclusion of a more powerful chip with more memory prepares each Shelly Gen3 device for the introduction of new capabilities in the near future. So this is both a performance upgrade and a “future-proofing” upgrade.

We are thrilled to showcase our next generation products at CES 2024. With increased memory capacity and enhanced capabilities, users can experience enhanced product functionalities and reliability of our devices. These new products mark a significant milestone for us as we continue to deliver cutting-edge solutions that empower our users to create truly smart homes and businesses.

Shelly’s Gen3 line also introduces a new capability called “virtual components,” to the line. The company says that virtual components will transform “how users manage and control 3rd party devices.” Using a Gen3 device along with the company’s Shelly Smart Control app will give users the opportunity to create a virtual device, allowing the integration of non-Shelly or 3rd party products into a unified control system.

Why Shelly’s Gen3 Will ‘Matter’

The company also revealed that all Gen3 devices are on the pathway to be upgraded to Matter, the new industrywide standard for reliable, secure, interbrand interoperability. Shelly notes that “With double the memory, all Gen3 devices guarantee a smooth update process, while paving the way for new smart capabilities and integrations.”

The company says that demand for enhanced capabilities like Matter came from feedback from its growing community of users. Shelly products are sold in more than 100 countries globally and it has sold more than 10 million devices in total.

Shelly will offer ten new products in total at CES 2024. Of this total number, the following items are featured…

H&T Gen3

Shelly says this is one of the “flagship products” in its new Gen3 Series. The H&T Gen3 is a Wi-Fi-connected smart sensor that accurately measures and shows both the temperature and humidity of any space. The company notes that an accurate read of this information is critical to maintaining any healthy home environment. With features like an e-paper graphic display, the company says that the H&T Gen3 “will amaze users with an exceptional experience.”

The H&T Gen3 features the new Shelly chip with all the performance upgrades that brings, including the 8MB of memory They also say this chip doubles the efficiency and responsiveness of the previous generation product, “ensuring your environment is monitored with unparalleled precision and ease.”

Mini Gen3 Series

This new Mini Gen3 Series of relays packs all the power and memory of the new Shelly chip into an incredibly miniature form factor. This allows the installer to easily pack it behind a wall-mounted switch or behind a lighting mount in the ceiling.

The new Mini Gen3 Series is 35% smaller than the previous version of Shelly Plus devices, enabling its application in more tight spaces. This series is a retrofitter’s dream, allowing the full automation of lights, garage doors, irrigation systems, or even small electrical appliances with a quick 10-minute installation and the relay tucked away out of sight.

Qubino Wave Plug US

The Qubino Wave Plug US is a line of microprocessor-controlled devices that provide for the easy control of a wide range of electric devices, such as lights, power lines, security systems, heating radiators, air conditioners, and more. Thanks to the inclusion of Z-Wave compatibility, all of these items can be simply controlled via your favorite smartphone, tablet, PC, or home automation system.

All-in-all, Shelly is offering a pretty robust update to its line with the new Gen3 products. If you haven’t been paying attention to them, you might want to take a second look. The company says it is on a fast growth track, growing faster than the industry overall.

We feel confident in achieving our targets not only in terms of annual revenue but also in the number of products delivered. We are growing faster than the market, and that puts us in a position where we can offer our clients and partners the best solutions for their needs due to our short idea-to-market process. In 2023, we achieved our medium-term targets of revenue of more than EUR 200.0 million (ED: around $220 million) and we are well positioned to achieve EBIT of more than EUR 50.0 million by the end of 2026.
