Here is a really smart idea: AVPro Global, one of the industry’s fastest-growing manufacturers of a wide range of products designed specifically for the residential and commercial custom integration spaces, is creating an “Expert Advisory Board.” Why is that smart? Because a well-selected advisory board can be a great sounding board (no pun intended) on strategies and tactics, and an almost limitless source of fresh ideas and perspectives for driving above-average growth.
The first expert appointed to this board is well-known industry executive Wally Whinna, formerly of ADI/Snap One, AVAD, Tandem Marketing, and Allnet.

Assembling a rock-solid team for any business is a critical step in creating an effective organization. However, over time, even the best team can develop tunnel vision, run out of creative ideas, and/or otherwise be missing important knowledge or experience necessary for continued growth. With a well-constructed advisory board, outside subject matter experts can be brought on to expand the company’s knowledge base and – perhaps most importantly – offer a wise and experienced sounding board, augmenting the existing company team.
Expert Advisory Board will be Made Up of Renowned Industry Leaders
AVPro Global is taking this important step of assembling an advisory board that will consist of “renowned industry leaders” who will provide the company with “strategic insights and recommend solutions for advancing AVPro’s growth and market impact.” This board, the company says, will regularly meet on a quarterly basis and will provide guidance on emerging trends, as well as support the company’s expansion.
Well-known industry executive Wally Whinna is the first person to be appointed to this new advisory board – and his choice makes a lot of sense. Whinna started in our industry as a local Chicago-area rep/distributor that eventually became part of the Alliance of Value Added Distributors (AVAD). Whinna was a significant member of that group, and when it was acquired by Ingram Micro in 2005, he was one of the few AVAD owners who was brought on by Ingram Micro in a key role, managing the group.
Whinna’s Extensive Experience
After some more twists and turns, Whinna ended up in a key executive role with SnapAV as Senior Vice President of Local. SnapAV ultimately was acquired by Resideo (ADI), and Whinna ultimately left to become CEO of 2680 United. His experience, which encompasses both local and national roles, customer-facing as well as business-building responsibilities, makes him an excellent choice in this new position as advisor.

Wally’s track record in business development and creating lasting industry relationships is second to none. His insights and leadership will be instrumental as we continue to innovate and expand our reach, strengthening AVPro’s reputation as the trusted partner for connectivity and control solutions across markets.

Strategic Insights on Residential Market Expansion and Help to Enhance Dealer Relationships
The company told me that as its first advisor, Whinna will work closely with AVPro’s executive leadership to provide strategic insights that will accelerate its residential market expansion, as well as help to enhance dealer relationships. The dealer relationship component, especially, is an area they feel Whinna has particular and extensive experience.
So for now, the expert advisory board is a board of one. However, the company says it is designed to grow and evolve. In the next few months, the board will expand with more members added, including experts specializing in commercial markets as well as international business.
Company Will Benefit from a Diverse Range of Perspectives
Much as I explained above, the company feels that this progressive approach will enable it to benefit from a diverse range of perspectives, “ensuring we remain at the forefront of industry trends and customer needs,” a company representative said in an email. Whinna’s appointment is just the first step, but an important one. “We look forward to the contributions of future board members as the program develops.”
