AudioControl, part of the AVPro Global stable of brands, announced this week a new series of high-performance integrated amplifiers embodying all of the latest technologies under the expanded Bijou Series name. This new series of three models features a super-compact design for install-anywhere flexibility while at the same time employing all of the latest technology, such as Gallium Nitride (GaN) circuitry, Dante networking, eARC connectivity, and more.

The Bijou product name was first launched by AudioControl back in 2015 with the Bijou 600 network amplifier. The company was under different ownership then, but I was excited to see current owners AVPro Global build upon the success of that model with an entirely new series of amplifiers that incorporate all the latest technology in a compact form factor that offers integrators tremendous flexibility, no matter what installation challenges they are facing.
In its prepared statement, the company noted the “growing demand for audio enhancement to support large-screen TVs, micro-LED wall installations, and many other professionally installed entertainment system applications.” This new Bijou Series – The Bijou 2100/3100/5100 – might just be that Swiss army knife solution that easily solves so many of installation challenges that you’ll want to keep them at the ready on the truck.

Key Features of the Bijou Series
GaN Technology – All three models of the Bijou Series incorporate Gallium Nitride (GaN) semiconductors, a substantial upgrade over traditional silicon-based semiconductors which are approaching their performance limits. GaN semiconductors are faster and more efficient than silicon versions, offering a substantial performance upgrade. Originally developed for demanding applications such as space and avionics, AudioControl has led the audio industry in offering this superior technology performance in its products. eARC Connectivity – Also all three Bijou models offer HDMI eARC (enhanced audio return channel). The beauty of eARC is that it simplifies life for the end-user, reduces cable clutter for a cleaner installation, and supports Dolby Atmos and DTS. It also simplifies control, as your TV remote now controls both your TV video and your audio sent via eARC to your soundbar or system.
Connect and Control
Dante Audio Networking – Available on the Bijou 5100 – AudioControl includes Dante Audio Networking support. Like GaN, AudioControl has been an early adopter of Dante, a networking protocol popular in the professional and commercial channels, now picking up steam in the residential community as well. Able to pass hundreds of uncompressed audio channels over long runs of regular category cable, Dante is a solution to many issues faced by integrators. See more on Dante in this earlier story…
IP Control – Of course, AudioControl places the integrator at the center of everything they do. Consequently, in addition to all the features and technologies mentioned above, the Bijou series includes IP control to interface with popular control systems, such as Control4. They also include a handy web configuration interface and configurable line outputs.
The Shape of Things to Come
Compact Form Factor – Perhaps one of the more compelling features of all of the Bijou models is their compact form factor. Taking up just 1U in a half-rack form factor means you can stuff a Bijou just about anywhere, such as behind a flat-panel TV. This makes it easier than ever to offer clients an audio upgrade anywhere in the home.
