Lutron Partners with SnapAV for OvrC-Enabled RA2 Select

April 2, 2018 by Ted 1 Comment

BREAKING NEWS

Lutron logo on black backgroundSnapAV announced today that it has partnered with lighting kingpin Lutron to offer a special version of their RA2 Select repeater, part of an entire RA2 Select system, that has been natively integrated into SnapAV’s OvrC remote management system. The agreement between the two of them is said to have been taken with the goal of “expanding the market for smart lighting control.”

This partnership pairs one of custom integration’s most powerful lighting system brands in Lutron, with one of the industry’s most unique entities, SnapAV, which is both a distributor and a manufacturer. One area that SnapAV has not  addressed before now is lighting. While lighting is increasingly popular with consumers, custom integrators have struggled to address the category, given the fact that it is generally a high-voltage product that – up until now – has been the domain of electrical contractors…not low voltage integrators.

But this new agreement may serve to drive a changing approach for integrators. SnapAV suggests that the main goal with this agreement is to reduce friction to the process of integrators embracing lighting as an installable category.

Reducing Friction to Drive Integrators’ Adoption of Lighting

SnapAV logoSnapAV’s announcement is pretty clear – this partnership with Lutron  will “make lighting control simpler for integrators.” Their hope is to get integrators to embrace whole-house lighting systems by “eas[ing] existing sales barriers.”

“Working with Lutron just makes sense,” said Adam Levy, SnapAV Executive VP of Marketing and Customer Care, in a prepared statement. “We’re taking an innovative new product from dealers’ favorite lighting control provider and enhancing it with dealers’ favorite remote system management platform, OvrC. We’re really excited for what this could mean to the industry.”

RA2 Select – A Simple Solution that will Meet Many Consumers’ Needs

Lutron’s RA2 Select is a simple smart home solution that uses wireless technology to make installation easy. It is not as complete as more sophisticated solutions, but it offers a broad enough range of capabilities to satisfy many consumers interested in smart home solutions. With RA2 Select, consumers can control whole-home lighting, motorized shades or drapery, integrate a Lutron wireless thermostat, control fan motors, and even employ occupancy sensors.

And, of course, it is app-driven.

“With the growing interest in smart home, the opportunity for integrators to expand their businesses with lighting controls has never been greater,” said Lutron’s director of product management Gerard Darville in the same prepared statement. “The simplicity of the RA2 Select wireless lighting control system, combined with the powerful OvrC remote management platform, allows installers to more easily explore these products and grow their business within a category that will ultimately lead to more customers and greater sales.”

SnapAV – OvrC Integration is Key

SnapAV believes that, with OvrC, they bring a major enhancement to the RA2 Select system. Their remote management solution is said to offer integrators event notifications and opens up visibility of the main repeater and its sub-components. And as with any remote management solution, integrators will be able to remotely reboot clients’ systems, do some basic troubleshooting, and perform configuration functions.

“Through this integration, the RA2 Select system becomes a valuable part of the OvrC ecosystem,” said Kenny Kim, SnapAV’s VP of Connected Products. “It’s the first non-SnapAV product to be natively integrated with OvrC, giving our integrators the same valuable remote features as Snap connected products. Native integration allows us to do much more in the future to make our dealers’ lives easier.”
