Somfy and Josh.ai Say Dealers Demanded They Partner with Crestron Home

Ever since Crestron launched Crestron Home it became obvious that there had been a sea change in the company’s go-forward strategy. The new Home operating system was easier to program and deploy, more visually attractive for end-users, and more clearly differentiated from their more robust high-end programming solutions. But also, the company’s style of operation changed as well, from doing it all in-house to opening itself up to partnerships.

Now we learn of two more in a long line of technology partnerships as the company continues to evolve and propel Crestron Home down the path to becoming the dominant smart home OS in the industry. The new partnerships are with Josh.ai and Somfy, both well-regarded technology players in the custom integration channel.

Crestron continues to expand their Home solution via partnerships, which only helps make their Home solution more meaningful to more integrators and their clients. The list of current technology partners is really too long to get into here, but I mention this because these two new technology partnerships with Somfy and Josh.ai are just the latest examples of a new, more open Crestron that’s building a more intuitive and expansive Home ecosystem.

Somfy Gets Comfy with Crestron

Somfy Systems says it has partnered with Crestron for control of outdoor and indoor motorized solutions. “This Crestron Home driver for Somfy’s new TaHoma Gateway interface will allow the seamless control of smart shading solutions.”

Somfy says that the idea of a collaboration with Crestron was “highly requested” by their integrators. Thanks to this new optimized Crestron Home driver, Crestron integrators will find it easier than ever to automate a variety of Somfy solutions into their systems, such as shutters, awnings, exterior screens, solar shading and more.

By working together, we’ve made it easier for Crestron Home integrators to automate rolling shutters, pergolas, awnings, exterior screens, projection screens, and solar shading that use Somfy motors.”

Brittany Mier y Terán, Somfy Partnership and Custom Integration Channel Manager

With outdoor living spaces in demand by clients now more than ever before, this partnership is a true win-win for integrators installing automated outdoor systems with Somfy motorized solutions combined with Crestron outdoor lighting and full entertainment solutions as well.

Josh.ai Says Welcome to Crestron Home

Josh.ai, a voice-control interface favored by many integrators, says that through a close engineering relationship with Crestron, it has received “exclusive development access” which has allowed it to expand its audio and video distribution capabilities on the Crestron Home operating system. No matter the equipment included in any system, as long as Crestron Home is the control “backbone,” Josh.ai can communicate with any of the system’s devices and employ its artificial intelligence to, for example, find any specific content with compatible service providers.

Josh.ai partners with Crestron Home

Supporting Crestron Home’s distributed AV infrastructure has been one of our most commonly requested features and delivering this functionality to our mutual dealers is a testament to the cooperation of our respective engineering teams. Our goal at Josh.ai is to make user experiences as intuitive and magical as possible, no matter the complexity of the technology in the background. While not only distinguishing ourselves from the mass market solutions, this level of Crestron Home integration gets us another step closer to our goal of providing every smart home user with their ideal experience.”

Alex Capecelatro, CEO of Josh.ai

After following a simple two-step setup procedure, Josh.ai will immediately scan the system and auto-populate all compatible devices that are already programmed within Crestron Home’s interface. Along with AV source distribution, Josh.ai natively works with Crestron Home’s lights, shades, thermostats, locks, scenes, and quick actions.

Like Somfy, Josh.ai says that it prioritized development with Crestron “to satisfy the high level of demand from the integrator community.”
