Consolidation continues in the custom integration world – in this case, Denver-based manufacturer representative firm Momentum Group has acquired the residential division of Texas’ own renowned Dobbs Stanford rep firm based in Dallas. Consolidation has NOT been a big story on the sales representative side…up until now.

For the most part, there have not been a lot of examples of consolidation in the manufacturer sales representative segment, as compared to other industry segments, such as manufacturing and distribution. But in this case, we have two storied sales rep brands coming together with Momentum Group’s acquisition of Dobbs Stanford’s Residential division.

You don’t have to speak with very many Texas dealers to hear the Dobbs Stanford name brought up as a key contact to top manufacturers. A leading sales representative firm with more than 45-years of serving Texas dealers technology needs, today’s Dobbs Stanford organization has three major divisions – Professional, Residential, and Electronic Lane Distribution.

Meet ‘Rio Grande Reps’

Momentum Group is acquiring their Residential Division, with which it shares many key lines, including Legrand lines and Sonance. Dobbs Stanford will continue on under their original name with their Professional Division and Electronic Lane Distribution.

Momentum Group will operate the DS residential business under a new company called Rio Grande Reps throughout the standard EIA four-state sales territory of Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas. However, in the Rocky Mountain states, the company will continue to operate under the Momentum Group name.

Texas Dealers to See More Brands and Services Options

Founded by principal David Thomas, Momentum Group is an equally well-known firm that Rocky Mountain region dealers have relied upon for decades to provide exceptional sales and support services. The company represents a long line of top brands and has built an enviable reputation for their training and educational services.

“We believe that Dobbs Stanford has long been recognized as one of the premier residential manufacturer representatives in the CEDIA channel. That commitment to excellence will not change and will grow by providing the dealer base with additional design, engineering, marketing, and administrative resources. Rio Grande Reps will complement the existing sales resources of both T.O. Perry and Alan Leach with two new sales resources in the Austin and Houston markets. Rio Grande Reps will continue to represent most of the current Dobbs Stanford residential brands while adding complimentary new brands to the line card.”

The acquisition is expected to close on October 1, 2019.

  1. Sad to hear our longtime Sonance rep will be replaced by a veteran of Best Buy. This is definitely an unfortunate situation and not a positive development.

    Another sign our industry is circling the drain…

    • Hello Harry;
      I’d like the opportunity to discuss the transition with you. I am not sure where you got the information above but it is not quite accurate. We understand there are people talking about this transition but a more accurate representation of the truth from our competitors would be great. Are you available to discuss it person to person?
