Dr. Steve Weber was building a home in Colorado, and he needed an integrator to design and install the home’s automation system. Although he didn’t know it at the time, the result of that experience would alter the course of his career.
Learn all about Dr. Weber’s journey into a new career
Steve Weber enjoyed a multi-decade career as a top surgeon, a high-pressure role that mandates he immediately identify critical issues, quickly devise a corrective plan of action, and expertly and precisely execute that plan. The level of skill necessary for success was uncommonly high, as lives could literally hang in the balance.
Years of identifying and solving vexing problems served to make this skill almost second-nature to him. Problems jumped out at him, and solutions emerged equally fast.
An Intensely Frustrating Experience
These skills would come in handy when his home technology project seemed to go off the rails. As part of the new home he was building in Colorado, Weber hired a custom integrator to handle the planning, design, and installation of this important home technology system.
Since he was hiring a technology professional, it never entered his mind that this project would turn out to be an intensely frustrating experience. Nor did he expect it to become the motivation for a major career shift for him either.
Experience Exposed Deeper Problems Across the Industry
What went wrong with his technology provider’s plans for Weber’s home in Colorado? His integration project suffered years of unanticipated delays, countless programming issues, and ultimately delivered an unacceptable level of incomplete work. To Weber, this stunning sequence of events exposed deeper problems that likely ran across the entire industry.
There had to be a better way, and he was determined to build it.
By nature, I’m a builder and a fixer. In surgery, you see a problem, you take ownership of it, and you fix it. When I experienced the breakdown in this industry, I saw the same opportunity. It was no longer about a single patient, it was about improving an entire system.
Steve Weber, Founder of Liaison Technology Group
Diagnose, Design, and Execute with Precision
So in 2014, Weber founded Liaison Home Automation, a custom integration company that enthusiastically pursues Weber’s way, which simply means they diagnose the situation, design the solution, and execute the plan with precision. Informed by his experience as a dissatisfied client in the past, Liaison brings the higher level of precision, communication, and client experience that clients deserve to the custom integration industry.
Weber was clearly on to something, as his operation has dramatically expanded over the years and is now known today as the Liaison Technology Group. The company now serves a total of nine locations across four major regions in the U.S., including Illinois, Tennessee, Florida, and Colorado. Liaison employs more than 70 team members, including professional programmers, designers, and lighting specialists.
Serving the Residential and Commercial Channels
The company serves both the residential and commercial technology channels. It offers a wide array of product categories to meet the needs of almost any client, including lighting design, motorized shading, audio and video distribution, networking, security, and energy management systems.

Adds Weber, “We are not providers of just a TV or just a speaker. Our job is to bring technology together into an experience that feels simple, reliable, and intuitive.”
Continues to Pursue Strategic Growth Opportunities
The company continues to pursue new growth opportunities by entering new markets, seeking logical acquisitions, and launching new specialized company divisions. This growth is not pursued in a haphazard manner, rather it is measured and strategic, with a strong focus on maintaining the technical precision and service standards that have defined its work.
