AudioControl announced today the launch of the all-new Hyperion Series line of high-performance home theater products. This Hyperion Series is a completely updated line that builds upon AudioControl’s decades of experience in innovative high-performance audio system design, combined with sister company AVPro Edge’s cutting-edge video capabilities and system networking expertise.
The resulting redesigned Hyperion Series – a dramatic departure from past AudioControl designs – looks, feels, and I’m sure sounds like what might be one of the most contemporary high-performance home theater lines on the market today.

Today, AudioControl revealed an entirely new concept in home theater with its remarkable Hyperion Series. With an all-new industrial design, a refreshed package of the latest technologies and features, a continued commitment to the ultimate performance…down to the smallest detail…and a thoughtful new user interface, this series aims to set the pace and lead the field in the highly competitive high-performance home theater segment.
Six All-New Hyperion Series Home Theater Models
It is an impressive launch, with no fewer than six all-new Hyperion Series models, including the APR-16 16-channel preamp/processor, three new multi-channel amplifiers, and two new eARC-to-Dante converters. I’ve got to be honest with you, when the company reached out to me to announce this new line-up, it was a bit breathtaking.
So let’s go through the lineup so you can get to know AudioControl’s Hyperion Series a little better.
Hyperion Series APR-16 – A Robust 16-Channel Home Theater Preamp/Processor
This beast of a preamp/processor can handle just about every home theater configuration from the simplest to the most sophisticated. Completely designed and engineered by AudioControl’s senior engineering team, the APR-16 offers a breathtaking array of features and capabilities, all while ensuring the highest quality performance possible, such as, for example, building in independent signal path optimization enabling integrators to tune each system to maximize performance in any room precisely.
There are both balanced (XLR) and unbalanced inputs, as well as 16-channels of balanced (XLR) and unbalanced outputs. There are a total of seven HDMI inputs and one eARC-enabled HDMI output. The APR-16 also features four digital inputs – two S/PDIF and two Toslink. Of course, the usual suspects are there, such as RS232 support, a 12-volt trigger, IR connectivity, and a USB input.

From AudioControl, Dante is Not Daunting
But let’s not forget Hyperion’s performance edge. To maximize system performance, the Hyperion APR-16 utilizes the superlative 32-bit ESS Sabre DACs, supports 24-bit/192kHz sampling rates, and delivers comprehensive routing capabilities to enable effortless system configuration for integrators. Thanks to a robust API, the APR-16 is compatible with virtually all control systems.
Finally, the Hyperion APR-16 is designed to play nice with Dante. Dante, which is very popular in the commercial integration channel, is growing quickly in popularity with residential integrators as well. In fact, in the APR-16, Dante is on board with a built-in 4-port Ethernet switch with Dante/AES67 capability (2 in/2 out). Dante integration enables seamless network audio distribution, no matter how extensive the scale or sophisticated the design of an installation.
The company notes that the Hyperion APR-16 meets all standards as set by CEDIA/CTA-RP22.
Hyperion Series Home Theater Amplifiers – Tetra, Penta, and Hepta
Three new home theater amplifiers were introduced as part of this new Hyperion Series launch, including the Tetra, Penta, and Hepta models. The Tetra is a full-featured four-channel amplifier, the Penta is a five-channel model, and the Hepta is a seven-channel amplifier.

As the Hyperion Series offers a consistent platform, these amplifiers can be mixed and matched in any way necessary to match the configuration of your installation. Each bears a consistent circuitry topology that delivers what the company says is consistent “sonic purity and detail.”
Features a Multi-Award Winning Platform
As you would rightly suspect, AudioControl packed Hyperion amps with its finest audio technology, including its multi-award-winning G4 Class H architecture. The company notes that this high-performance platform is embraced by thousands of integrators and home theater specialists.

For those unfamiliar with Class H, and without getting too bogged down in technical details, it works much like the venerable Class AB design, but optimizes efficiency by combining multiple supply rails such that when dynamic content demands greater power, it can instantly switch to a different supply rail to match power delivery with content demand. Class H is smart…it is high quality…and it is efficient.
Flexible Connectivity, System Protection, and Powerful Performance
Also on board in Hyperion amps is AudioControl’s proprietary LightDrive circuitry that detects and protects from clipping before it reaches the speakers or your ears. LightDrive serves to preserve dynamics while protecting speakers from potential damage. So don’t fear those special effects-heavy movies; your system will keep running with clean, dynamic performance.
Also included are both balanced (XLR) and unbalanced (RCA) inputs for each channel, with pass-through. Hyperion amps include high-quality five-way binding posts for reliable speaker connection. And, again, as you might suspect, there is a 12-volt trigger input (and output) for control system integration.
Finally, like the rest of the Hyperion line, the amps fully support Dante/AES67 for low-latency audio distribution over standard IP infrastructure.
Hyperion Axis – eARC to Dante Converters
Rounding out today’s launch of the Hyperion Series are two new Axis eARC-to-Dante converters, including a 2-channel version and a 10-channel version. In a nutshell, AudioControl says that Axis “extract[s] high-bitrate audio via eARC or digital inputs and inject[s] it directly into Dante and AES67 networks.”

Savvy Strata-gee readers either already know or likely suspect Axis2 is designed to facilitate the distribution of stereo to secondary rooms in an installation. Meanwhile, the multi-channel Axis10 is for multi-channel living spaces.
AudioControl Makes Installing Dante Easy
With onboard processing, the Axis10 delivers decoding for up to eight channels of Dolby Atmos or DTS-HD formats along with speaker tuning and calibration, EQ, crossover, delay, and gain control. The Axis10 also includes a dedicated stereo downmix output to facilitate distributing audio from a primary room throughout the rest of the home.

For those already committed to Dante…or those who are Dante-curious…AudioControl’s new Hyperion Series makes Dante installations easy, efficient, reliable, and virtually fool-proof!
