Control4 Rolls Out New ‘Smart Skills’ Training

June 15, 2016 by Ted 2 Comments

Control4 logoControl4 Corporation announced Wednesday that they are rolling out an interesting new augmentation to their overall training efforts – short e-learning modules called Smart Skills. Smart Skills are short videos made available to certified Control4 dealers that offer focused training on one specific topic.

Smart Skills do not replace any of the other training resources Control4 offers its dealers, rather they augments them with these added 3-minute videos that visually demonstrate how to master one specific topic…i.e. how to complete a specific installation configuration…how to program unique scene settings…and how to perform other singular tasks using the Control4 platform.

We are a visual society, and short videos such as these could be the perfect way for time-stressed integrators to quickly pick a topic on an issue they are dealing with and in a matter of minutes master that topic. The company has created a library of 15 such Smart Skill videos covering several critical topic areas such as lighting, entertainment, comfort & convenience, safety & security and networking.

“Control4 Training is always looking for better ways to help Control4 certified technicians succeed in their careers. Our dealers depend on us for this,” said Rus Rasmussen, Director of Training for Control4 Corp. “Smart Skills are our latest innovation toward that goal. With this new format, we can provide ongoing additions and updates to supplement the standard certification curriculum.”

As Capabilities Expand, So Do Training Challenges

The company notes that as technology advances and the capabilities of their systems expand, the number of variables that can be addressed by their systems becomes “vast” – and far more than can be addressed in any basic certification training class. Smart Skills help technicians move beyond the basic configurations with seeing/hearing videos optimized on a given topic.

The company has selected key topics for their Smart Skills videos, such as: how to automate a gas fireplace…how to integrate a ZigBee door lock…how to enable alerts on the home owner’s mobile device…and how to do more advanced programming with custom variables.

Control4’s Smart Skills videos are available to employees of authorized dealers. Dealers simply need to go to their Control4 portal and create a unique login for their employees, who then can login and navigate to the videos in the Technical Training section under Training.
