First featured in the top-of-the-line BMW 7 series, the company says its engineers worked side-by-side with BMW engineers from the very start of the XM development to ensure that its Diamond Surround Sound System was fully optimized for the luxury interior of this unique SUV.

Targeting the Performance of 800 Series Diamond Speaker…In a Car
For this project, B&W chose to set its very own 800 Series Diamond reference-grade loudspeakers as its standard of performance for this system. Now I suppose you could strap a set of 800 Series Diamond Speakers in the back seat and call it a day. But that’s not very practical. So B&W implemented a system design that pulls technology from their flagship line, but in a form factor that works better with, and is designed for, the unique interior design of this vehicle.
B&W implements no fewer than 20 high-performance speakers in the interior of the BMW XM. The goal is to immerse all of the occupants of the vehicle, both front seat and rear, with a high-quality, balanced sound. The company says that B&W engineers optimize speaker positioning and direction to deliver “an unparalleled in-car listening experience that is accurate and true to the original recording, a philosophy Bowers & Wilkins calls ‘True Sound.'”
Components that Make Up the B&W Diamond Surround Sound Systems
The B&W Diamond Surround Sound System for the BMW XM consists of:
- Five aluminum tweeters
- Two Rohacell central bass speakers under the front seats
- Two Diamond Dome tweeters in the driver and passenger side A-pillars
- Five Continuum™ midrange speakers in the front and rear doors, the dashboard, and at the rear of the cabin
- Special stainless-steel speaker grills with a unique pattern design that illuminates to help visually reinforce the incredible sound quality of this system
